Front: Taufa'ahau Tupou IV (1918-2006), King of Tonga 1965-2006

Taufa'ahau was son of Queen Salote Tupou III. As a Crown Prince, he worked as a religious preacher, and later studied law in Australia. His mother Queen Salote appointed him Minister of Education in 1943, Minister of Health in 1944, and Premier in 1949. Taufa'ahau became king upon the death of his mother in 1965.
